What does everyone think of you when you leave a place?
What does everyone think of you when you leave a place? This thought-provoking question was posed to us by Paul Carrick Brunson during the conference he gave to the attendees of the IBSC Annual Conference at Harrow School.
It gave me a lot to think about because it’s not just what you say and do, but also how you communicate your deeper intentions in every action at every moment. He is convinced that to lead is to serve, and certainly those leaders, when they leave a place, what others think of them is: “how much they have helped us!, how much they have thought about me or the team!, how much they have made me grow by their side!, how much confidence they have transmitted to me!”.
He delved into a detail I had never heard before, the BBR Belly Button Rule; in a conversation with another person, where your belly button is pointing is the person or place that interests you at that moment. If your belly button is facing the person who is speaking to you, it means you are interested in what they are saying; if you are focused towards the door, it means what they are saying is not important to you and you would like to leave. Since I heard this, I have been paying attention to this small detail and have been surprised by what I have observed in my talks with people about Iguales y Diferentes.
Paul showed us that the core of his work is to impact people’s lives through the application of the science of #relationships. His way of communicating in front of the more than 600 people in the auditorium confirmed this to me. He was simple and sincere, I would dare to say… shy. My surprise was when I searched for him on Google and could see his online personality. #leadership #education
